Description: Mae Barlowe’s annual beach trip is anything but a vacation.

It’s the anniversary of the worst day of her life.

When her husband and best friend surprise her with a last-minute itinerary change in the form of a couples’ cruise, she struggles to hide her reservations about the new plan.

A week spent cruising around in a tropical paradise sounds like a dream come true to everyone else, but for Mae, it’s an eerie reminder of chilling memories from her past.

Once on board the ship, a mysterious stranger causes confusion among the group, leading them to ask unsettling questions of one another.

Before they can get real answers, tragedy strikes.

Trapped on the vessel as it ventures toward their first destination, the friends struggle to come to grips with their new reality.

How do they stay safe when danger seems to be lurking around every corner?

Who can be trusted when nothing is quite what it seems?

How far will they go to protect the ones they love?

My Thoughts: This audiobook started off as a slow burn for me and it was like that until about half way to three quarters of the way through. Once I got to that far in, the audibook changed pace quickly and became way more interesting. The story of Mae Barlowe is tragic and what her husband and her best friend are trying to do on the anniversary of her brother's death is sweet but a bit ironic in the sense that they chose a cruise.

For the biggest chunk of the book, you are listening to Mae's story and learning about her background and then the struggles they are going through. You are also listening to them exploring the ship. It's not until you get to the tragedy that strikes that things start to become interesting. This is the time when I found myself really paying attention to the story.

The tragedy creates such mystery with it and there is so much going on. I loved how it was hard to predict what was going to happen next or who may be the culprit. I really thought I had it at one point, but boy was I wrong.

The ending was the biggest shocker to me and I did feel like it blew me out of the water more than once. Once you think that everything has been revealed there is just one more thing that comes to light and it is a massive bomb, to say the least. To be quite honest, the ending was probably my favorite part.

I was left wanting to learn more about Mae Barlowe's brother, as he is a fascinating character and has an interesting story.

I quite enjoyed the narration of this book. One thing that makes it really unique is that the narration is not done by one or two narrators, which I feel is the most common, but it is actually done by four: Pete Cross, Laura Jennings, Kelli Tager, Susan C. Hunter. The multiple narrators I felt made it feel like each character was truly unique and had their own personalities brought to life by each narrator's reading.

Rating: I am giving this book a 3.5 star rating because if it was not for that tragedy towards the middle or three quarters of the way through the book, I don't know that I would have finished this or found it very enjoyable. The huge reveals at the end really made the book for me. I do feel like there is more to some of these characters stories that could be told in another book.

Many thanks to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for this review copy. This is my honest opinion.
