Description: Three sisters, two murders, and too many secrets to count.
Fourteen years ago, the Palmer sisters—Emma, Juliette, and Daphne—left their home in Arden Hills and never returned. But when Emma discovers she’s pregnant and her husband loses his job, she has no option but to return to the house that she and her estranged sisters still own . . . and where their parents were murdered.
Emma has never told anyone what she saw the night her parents died, even when she became the prime suspect. But her presence in the house threatens to uncover secrets that have stayed hidden for years, and the sisters are drawn together once again. As they face their memories of the past, rivalries restart, connections are forged, and, for the first time, Emma starts to ask questions about what really happened that night.
The more Emma learns, the more riddles emerge. And Emma begins to wonder just what her siblings will do to keep the past buried, and whether she did the right thing staying quiet about what was whispered that night: “No one can know.”

My Thoughts: Thank you to Macmillan Audio for this advanced listeners copy.
The story follows three sisters, Emma, Daphne, and Juliette with Emma being the primary focus. Emma has become pregnant and her husband lost his job. They are losing their place to live and have no where to go. Despite Emma's wishes they have no choice but to move into her family home, the home where her parents were murdered and the town believes she did it. Will the secrets of the past be revealed?
This quickly became one of my favorite listens for this year and it releases on January 23, 2024. I really enjoyed the story and how it developed. Emma and her sisters had a rough abusive childhood and they wanted to get away. I loved learning and listening to each sisters childhood story for the time leading up to the murders and how they each changed after the event.
The story is fast paced and has a ton of who did it. I love the mystery of it and the surprise endings. The sisterhood in the story is strong despite them being estranged for so long.
Karissa Vackers reading of the story was spot on for me. She brought to life each sister so well and showed their emotions throughout. I would definitely listen to another audiobook by her.
This was my first Kate Alice Marshall book and I am already looking to add another one of hers to my TBR.
Rating: 5 out of 5 for me. This is a definite add to your TBR if you love mystery and suspense books.
Many thanks to Macmillan Audio for this advanced listeners copy. This is my honest opinion.
