Description: Eve Duncan and Joe Quinn must protect the life of a brilliant scientist so that she can live long enough to bring her discovery to the world, in this fast-paced thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen.
Diane Connors is a dedicated doctor with the world’s biggest secret, a discovery that could have shocking global ramifications. But while conducting private research trials, word has gotten out. The wrong people have heard the news and now want to hide Diane’s achievement for their own ends.
With nowhere else to turn, Diane finds herself on the doorstep of the last man she wants to ask for help: her ex-husband, Joe Quinn. Joe has remarried, and he and his wife, Eve Duncan, seem blissfully happy in their quiet, rural life until they are faced with the challenge of risking it all—even their marriage itself—for the greater good …
Now Eve is trapped in a web of murder and deceit as powerful enemies rush to cover up the truth, determined that Diane’s discovery goes with her to the grave—even if Eve and Joe get buried with her.
My Thoughts: I don't know if anyone else has ever heard of "the bullet" or this cures all medicine. I have and its a nice thought. That is what this book is about.
This isn't the typical Eve Duncan book in my opinion. Eve Duncan is world renowned for work with bringing skulls back to life. Eve works on a reconstruction in the story but it's not described or focused on as much as in previous books. The primary focus is around, Diane, Joe Quinn's ex-wife.
It's an okay story and its nice to learn more about Joe Quinn and his background. However, I thought this book lacked the usual pull that I would get from an Iris Johansen book. The pull that makes you want to dive deeper into the book without stopping even though you know you should because you need to go sleep. It doesn't have the thrill and the action that I have come so much to expect from her books. This has been a pattern for her past few books, which has made me sad.
Rating: I'm giving it 3 stars because I did finish the book. It took me longer than usual but I did finish it and enjoyed it to some extent. I do hope that the action picks up in the next book. I wasn't the most fondest of Elisabeth Rodgers narration either.
