My Thoughts: If you have not figured it out already, you will soon figure out that I quite enjoy Alisson Brennan's books. This is the 16th Lucy Kincaid book in the series. I have not read all of the books in the series yet and I have not felt like I am at a disadvantage because of it.

In general Alisson Brennan fashion, this story follows more than one case/story at a time. I am not a huge fun of this style, because I find it difficult to keep all of the different cases/stories straight. I really like a book where it is easy to follow. 

This book follow's FBI agent Lucy in her investigation of a cold case after bodies of a family were found that were thought to have escaped to Mexico. It also follows Max Revere who is working on a separate case, a murder case, and has hired Lucy's husband, Sean, for security of the possible suspect who has recanted his confession. In addition to these two cases, it also follows the story of another individual who is in hiding (don't want to say too much, as I don't want to give anything away).

I found that I was quite interested more in the story of the individual in hiding than I was in the other two cases. One thing that I don't like about having more than one case at the same time going on in a story is that it is hard to figure out at first if the cases are all connected or not. In my opinion, writing a book in this style makes the book feel disjointed and not flow as smoothly.

Lucy and Max are two very different types of characters and I am still not sure if I like Max or not. I quite enjoy Lucy and her family.  I would like to learn more about Lucy's husband, Sean, or even a book about Sean and what he does. He seems to have an interesting job and past, plus some interesting relatives and friends and I think he could be a good spin off story.

Rating: All in all I would give this book a 3 out of 5. As previously stated, the story felt disjointed to me with three different cases going on. There is quite a bit of action that goes on towards the in, especially when the local police department and the FBI start to get involved. The question comes up is their a cover up? Are the local police department corrupt or just some of their police officers? I also found that I really only enjoyed the story of the individual who was in hiding.
