Description: Maxine Revere has dedicated her life to investigating murders that the police have long since given up any hope of solving. A nationally renowned, tough-as-nails investigative reporter with her own TV show, Max tackles cold cases from across the country and every walk of life. But the one unsolved murder that still haunts her is a case from her own past.

"Buckle up and brace yourself for Maxine Revere."―Sandra Brown

When she was a high school senior, a close friend was strangled and another, Kevin, was accused of the crime. Max stood by Kevin―until she found out he lied about his alibi. Though his guilt was never proven, their relationship crumbled from the strain of too many secrets. But that was years ago…and now Max is home for Kevin's funeral. Did he kill himself after years of drug abuse―or did someone else do the deed? As Max uncovers some dark secrets about Kevin's past she finds herself caught in a complicated web of lies that hit far too close to home. And it's becoming increasingly clear that someone will do whatever it takes to make sure the truth stays buried…

My Thoughts: Max Revere returns back to her hometown per a request of a friends wife. Max is planning on doing a favor for this individual and look further into her friends suicide. However, Max starts to wonder could this suicide possibly be connected to another case. She has also been asked to look into the case of by his mother and father who spoke to Max about the case when she first landed.

The story line at times can be hard to follow as there are multiple cases/murders that Max is looking into. There is the death of her friend which was ruled a suicide by local police, there is the case that she was spoken to about at the airport, then there is the murder of her friend when she was in high school at Atherton Prep, and then the murder that occurs as the story continues. It can be hard to keep track of each these until you get to the end of the story.

There is some good character development, although, I did find it to be a bit slow when it came to Max. I also found that the story development was a bit slow. Allison does do a good job at making sure that the story development includes background information on Max so that you are better able to understand her family history. Max's family history is important to the story given that the Revere name is a recognized one in her hometown.

Rating:  3 out of 5. I enjoyed this book, but I found it to be slow and not draw me in as quickly as some of Allison Brennan's other books.
